Today's post features one of San Diego's top personal trainers, Maxx Holdrieth!
Maxx is a super dedicated and focused trainer with a flare of enthusiasm that can light up your whole morning. He knows how to make a routine fun and also can help push you to your limits and beyond. He relates with his clients well and can adapt a workout to perfectly fit your individual needs. It's hard not to feel satisfied after a workout session with Maxx.
FIRST IMPRESSION
Right off the bat, I was greeted with a smile and a super easy sign-in process at La Jolla Sports Club. I was seated downstairs and almost immediately greeted by Maxx (who also showed up early for our workout!).
Maxx is friendly, enthusiastic and has exactly the sense of humor that makes a morning workout FUN (if you can believe it)!! I had allotted only 20 minutes to workout with Maxx, but he made the most of it! We ran through a series of functional/creative exercises that gave me a full body workout.
I voiced my honest disdain for burpees (I know they’re super effective, I just really hate them!) and he honored that. Though he didn’t shy away from definitely pushing me to my limits. I got a thorough workout and would highly recommend training with Maxx.
Another plus was that the La Jolla Sports Club wasn’t busy at all (this is consistent feedback), so it was super easy to get around and have access to everything we wanted for the workout. The workout was creative and not just a bunch of common maneuvers.
I wanted a quick, effective and fun workout and Maxx nailed it on all accounts!
PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH MAXX
1) Who’s your ideal client?
Eager to learn, willing to try new things, some idea of where they want to go (we can define clarity along the way) and willing to look at long term instead of short term.
2) What’s your favorite Organifi product?
Green juice*. I am loving all the Organifi products!! I gotta say though, I think the green juice still holds its place at the top of my list. It works as a perfect quick, refreshing, afternoon pick me up.
3) How would you describe your unique training style and how did you figure it out?
It’s constantly evolving. I would classify it as “functional aesthetics.” I believe in quality movement. I like to teach people to move better and I understand their desire to look better as well! I’ve been lifting since I was 14, so lots of trial/error on my own body. I interned with Todd Durkin, Mike Boyle, Brent Contreras and JC Santana – those four have been influences. Taking philosophies/exercise from them and combining them into my client’s routines.
4) What’s your “catch phrase" that you say a lot during your class?
“You got this!” “You got it!” “You’re strong as f*ck!” (to give people confidence).
5) What is one thing people wouldn't guess about you?
Probably wouldn’t guess that I’m from Ohio. My favorite genre of books is philosophy, not fitness. My favorite muscle group to work is glutes.
6) What would you say other trainers best know you for?
Other trainers at my gym for one know I do a lot of movement-based activities (such as animal-flow and kettle-bell, strength training). Animal flow = movement based practice blends body-weight movements and yoga movements (dynamic warm-up, active recovery and metabolic finisher).
7) Where can people follow you online?
IG: maxximus__fitness (that has 2 underscores) and IG: procoachesonline
8) Is there anything else you want us to know?
Exercise should be fun. There’s a lot of conflicting information and people overthink it. While there’s a right and wrong thing to do according to your goals. Move more, enjoy life and have fun with exercise. It shouldn’t be something you dread doing. It doesn’t have to be the same for everyone.
If you're looking for a great workout on a tight schedule, be sure to give Maxx a holler.
Remember, we're in this together.
