Have you heard of the keto diet? If you haven’t, sooner or later you will, it is the newest trend among health-conscious individuals for fat burning and muscle building.
The keto or ketogenic diet is a low carb diet. It is also referred to as a low carb, high fat (LCHF) diet. The idea is that when you are eating this way, your body produces ketones in your liver to be used for energy. This can lead to fat loss, weight loss, extra energy, better physical performance, better mental performance and better health.
Many people who follow the keto plan rely on animal products; however, you can also do keto if you are vegan, vegetarian or mostly plant-based. In this case, you have to rely on mainly plant-based fat sources, such as coconut oil, avocados, nuts and seeds and plant-based protein sources, including tofu, soy, beans, nuts and seeds.
Because the keto diet tends to focus on real foods, free from processed sugar and generally very low in carbs, you may think that sweet things, desserts and chocolate are off the menu. The truth is far from that. You can make some delicious desserts using keto-friendly ingredients.
To prove this point, here is a vegan keto protein brownie recipe that is absolutely delicious.
